transformer upgrades

Transformers have a dramatic effect on the final tone of an amplifier. The output transformer’s function is to convert the high-voltage/low-current signal from the amplifier’s power tubes into a low-voltage/high-current signal to power the speakers at a low impedance.  The power transformer is the first step in establishing the tone of an amp. A inadequate power transformer cannot provide ample current to to produce the great tone that guitar players crave. The design and build quality of the output and power transformers are extremely important. Most major manufacturers use low cost transformers in their amps, so a great way to improve the tone and playability of your amp is to upgrade the transformers. Output transformers can have an even greater effect on tone than power transformers and an upgrade can give you a great improvement in tone.
